IOWA FALLS - Courtney Williams-Perry added to her rebounding prowess with one of her better offensive outings and the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team dispatched Ellsworth Community College 67-53 Saturday.
Williams-Perry recorded her second career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds, posting her fourth straight double-digit effort on the boards and 11th of the season. Jasmin Howe added a game-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and finished 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, while Ashley Salgado and Jamerka Martin scored 13 apiece in the ICCAC Division II contest.
The Tigers (15-6, 6-3) jumped out to an 18-5 lead less than 7 minutes into the game with Howe scoring 12 during that span including three treys. MCC shot 50 percent in the first half and led 35-22 at the break.
Howe opened the second frame with back-to-back buckets and Danielle Montgomery added two more to stretch the gap to 44-24. Ellsworth (7-14, 2-7) pulled back within 10 with a trio of 3s before MCC hit 10 of 11 free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.
The Tigers shot 18-of-24 from the stripe and outrebounded the Panthers 46-28. Justice Thigpen led ECC with 18 points and Jade Campbell had 16 as the home team shot 35 percent from the field.
Salgado dished out five assists and Howe had eight rebounds for the Tigers, who remain fourth in the ICCAC, two games ahead of fifth-place Des Moines Area Community College.
MCC will host NJCAA No. 10 ranked Iowa Central Community College Wednesday at 6 p.m.
