Top-ranked NIACC finishes off Tigers

MASON CITY - Top-ranked North Iowa Area Community College pulled out to a 18-point halftime lead and found a way to put away the Marshalltown CC women's basketball squad in Saturday's ICCAC Division II rematch, winning 92-68.

Chelsey Jacox led five double-digit scorers for the host Trojans (22-2, 11-0), netting 23 points in the team's sixth straight win. Cortni Rush, Sierra Ford-Washington and Morgan Walker each scored 14 points and Lateeka Thompson finished with 10.

Walker also snared 16 rebounds as she secured her second career double-double in NIACC's 12th home win in as many tries this season.

Ashley Salgado led Marshalltown (16-7, 7-4) with 15 points to go with eight assists and five rebounds. Courtney Williams-Perry posted her third double-double of the year with 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Rusty Henio's first career double-double came courtesy of 12 points and 11 boards.

Jamerka Martin added 13 points and Mackenzie Gott had eight for the Tigers, who had 16 turnovers in the first half alone.

The loss dropped MCC into a tie for third place in the division standings with the same Kirkwood team the Tigers host on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. at the Student Activity Center. Saturday's loss to NIACC was the Tigers' first defeat since falling at Kirkwood in their first meeting, 78-49, on Jan. 8.
