House of Compassion seeks shelter monitors

February 12, 2014
Karen Frohwein, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

As you may have seen on TV or read in the newspaper lately, the House of Compassion is experiencing high numbers of guests in our emergency shelter this time of year. We are blessed to serve and care for our neighbors in need. Please pray for those in the community who are experiencing homelessness during these cold months.

At the same time that the need is high, we are finding it increasingly difficult to find shelter monitors.

Perhaps you have monitored before and would be willing to come in again for a night this month. Perhaps you have thought about monitoring but have never taken the leap and made a call to volunteer. We would love to welcome you to the house for the hundredth time or the first time!

Please give Andi or Karen a call at 752-5999 if you are interested in helping us out.

Also in February, we will be offering two monitor training classes. These classes are for current monitors and anyone interested in learning more about this wonderful opportunity to serve others. The class will be held on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m., and on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., at the House of Compassion, 211 W. Church St. Only one class is required and we welcome anyone who is even curious about the shelter to come! In order for us to be prepared, we would like people to pre-register for the class by calling the shelter. However, don't let that deter you if at the last minute you want to attend!

Your support for those served by the House of Compassion is so important to us and to them. Please consider serving and most of all, keep your neighbors in need in your prayers.
