LINCOLN, Neb. - The Marshalltown softball team is on a roll.
Since starting the season 1-3, the Tigers have won five straight games and have outscored their opponents 53-3 during that stretch.
MCC (6-3) recorded another easy sweep on Thursday and strong performances inside the circle from Sarah Wilson, Mackenzie Gott and Brianna James led the way.
The Tiger trio allowed just two runs and five hits in 14-2 and 8-0 victories over Southeast. Both games ended after five innings.
Holli Baker scored a pair of runs early in game one to help stake the Tigers to a 5-2 lead, and MCC scored six runs on six hits in the third to pull away. Six players had at least two hits in the opener and all nine batters scored a run to pace the offensive attack. Wilson struck out seven and allowed just one hit in the circle for her third win of the season.
Wilson drove in a pair of runs early in game two as the Tigers' domination continued with an early 4-0 advantage. James did the rest in the circle as she did not allow a Storm base runner until the fourth inning. Gott closed out the game with a scoreless fifth as the Tigers finished off the sweep.
Brooke Dunkin and Tacie Blunk each collected three hits in the game for the Tigers, while former West Marshall standout McKenna Hotopp recorded two doubles.
The wins for Marshalltown opened up a week-long road trip that has the Tigers scheduled to play 12 games in seven days. The road trip continues with six games in Bixby, Okla., over the weekend. The Tigers will first play Eastern Oklahoma State College at 9 a.m. Saturday.
