JOPLIN, Mo. - For the second straight day, the Marshalltown Community College baseball team recorded a split against Iowa Community College Athletic Conference rival Ellsworth.
The Tigers got a combined five hits, four runs and two RBIs from freshman Parker Rolfes and sophomore Daryl Blaskovich in a 9-4 win in the opener, but Ellsworth bounced back to win the nightcap 4-2.
Blaskovich began the opener with a double as the Tigers plated three runs in the first inning and never looked back. MCC also scored a single run in the fifth, two in the sixth and brought in another three runs in the seventh to extend the lead.
Blaskovich extended his hitting streak to eight games and finished the weekend 9-of-17 at the plate. Austin Battaglia got his first victory on the mound at MCC, throwing 5 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts.
Ellsworth (6-12) scored a pair of runs off Patrick Rankin early and then the Panthers put the game-two victory away with two more runs in the fifth.
MCC (8-12) scored twice in the ninth but stranded a runner on base to end the threat. Ryan Thrasher and Pedro Lopez scored the runs for the Tigers.
In game one, Aneudis Sandoval, Ty Russell, Bennett Mann, Draysun Lum and Lopez each scored single runs. Russell also drove in a run and walked, while Lum had an RBI and Lopez walked twice.
Next up for MCC will be Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs on March 29.
