Open house to honor Lawler
An open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. March 26 to honor Marilee Lawler in her retirement from the Iowa River Hospice. Light refreshments will be served at 502 Plaza Heights Road.
Lawler has served as executive director for12 years and spent 20 years total on staff. All are welcome to attend and wish her well.
Seim inducted into actuarial society
Brock Seim has recently been inducted in to the Casualty Actuarial Society. He successfully passed a series of examinations to earn entrance.
Seim was a high school basketball standout and graduated from East Marshall High School in 2002 and from Dakota Wesleyan in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics where he also earned honors as the men's basketball conference player of the year, first-team All-American and Scholar Athlete.
He is currently employed as a Pricing Manager Actuary at Nationwide Insurance in Des Moines where he has worked for six years. Seim, wife Danielle, and sons Kaden and Brady make their home in Ankeny. He is the son of Tim and Jan Seim, of rural Garwin.
Iowa home prices up slightly
According to the Iowa Association of Realtors, home prices rose slightly and sales decreased in February.
lAR's March 2014 Housing Trends Report shows that the average sale price of homes across Iowa was $141,489, up .5 percent from last March. The average sale price in March 2013 was $140,751.
According to IAR, sales decreased by 5.1 percent from last year. IAR reports 1,792 homes sold in March 2014, while 1,889 homes sold in March 2013.
Twenty-six of Iowa's 44 local boards reported increases in average sale price, while 16 boards had increases in the number of sales.
The statewide average number of days on the market last month was 103 days, up one day or 1 percent from last March. Twenty-three boards showed a decrease in days on the market.
On a local level, the Marshalltown Board of Realtors reported 31 home sales in February with an average sales price of $99,600. An average list price of $107,500 and the average days on market was 93. The average sales price and number of sales is up from February 2013.
