HUDSON - The Marshalltown boys' soccer team outscored its opponents 19-1 over the course of four matches at the Hudson Tournament on Saturday.
The Bobcats went 4-0 on the day, recorded three shutouts and finished the tournament with a 3-0 win over Postville in the championship match.
"We had a great weekend," said first-year Bobcat coach Chris Fuschen. "Overall, it was a dominant performance."
Eight different players scored at least one goal and eight different players had at least one assist during the tournament. David Gomez led the way with five goals and four assists, while Martin Chavarria tallied three goals and five assists. He now has four goals on the season.
Ellis Buchwald led the Bobcats (6-0) in the opener against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura with three goals in the 7-1 win. Also scoring were Gomez, Eh Htoo, Tony Ordaz-Zambrano and Chavarria. Chavarria also dished out two assists.
Six different players - Buchwald, Chavarria, Gomez, Ordaz-Zambrano, Oswaldo Rodriguez and Blair VanStaalduine - scored during the Bobcats' 6-0 win over Independence. Chavarria tallied two more assists.
In the championship match against Postville, Gomez tallied two of the three goals, while Kevin Martinez scored his first goal of the season. Htoo and Chavarria both had an assist.
MHS returns to the pitch tonight when it hosts Des Moines Hoover at 7:30 p.m. The Bobcats also host Des Moines Roosevelt at Leonard Cole Field at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
STC girls down West Marshall golfers
TAMA - A medalist round of 39 from Northern Iowa commit and reigning Class 3A state champ Paige Van Dyk led the South Tama girls' golf team to a season-opening 204-225 victory over West Marshall on Friday at Tama-Toledo Country Club.
Carrie Cibula added runner-up medalist honors for STC with her 47. Laurel Scharnweber scored 56 and Erin Clayton carded a 62 to round out the Trojans' scoring.
Madi Stalzer led West Marshall with a round of 51, and Claire Underwood shot a 54. Kenadey Porter finished out with a 59, and Rosie Dawley's 61 completed the team scoring for the visiting Trojans.
