As Sarah Wilson goes, so go the Tigers.
That's been the case of late as the Marshalltown Community College sophomore was named Iowa Community College Softball Pitcher of the Week following a 4-0 showing in the circle.
The Ottumwa native appeared in all five of the Tigers' wins during a 5-1 week and improved her own record to 12-7 to grab her second accolade of the season. Wilson twirled a complete game effort last Wednesday including scoreless sixth and seventh innings to help MCC upset NJCAA Division II No. 15-ranked DMACC 5-4 at home.
Wilson tossed another complete game on Friday and her second seven-inning shutout of the season in a 6-0 victory over Southeast (Neb.) Community College. Wilson racked up a career-high 15 strikeouts while allowing just one hit and a walk. The sophomore pitched three scoreless innings of relief in game two against the Lady Storm as MCC won 10-2.
Wilson capped her week with back-to-back complete-game shutouts against conference foe Iowa Lakes Community College Saturday. She struck out 11 batters and allowed just three hits on the afternoon.
Wilson currently ranks third among all NJCAA Division II pitchers with 153 strikeouts and has not allowed a run in 23 innings, lowering her earned run average to 2.47.
The Tigers (22-14, 8-8) host Southwestern Community College (13-16, 5-11) today for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
