Cari Argo, daughter of Max and Pat Argo, was installed as the G-Y president during a candlelight ceremony at the 63rd mother-daughter banquet at the YWCA.

Beaman-Conrad girls track edged North Tama 72-71 and in the process Lori Adams broke the school record in the softball throw at 209 feet, 4 inches; Sharon Esbeck set a new record in the mile run and Connie Lynch broke the school record in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.6 seconds.

MCC Tiger softball with pitcher Jill DauSchmidt at the helm defeated Iowa Central 8-6. The Tigers were aided in the victory with home runs by Shawn Dannen and Jill Hartwig.

Thomas M. Bergmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bergmann, and Kurt N. Lettow, of Alden, were among the 264 seniors in the 14-state Fifth U.S. Army Area given a four-year Army ROTC scholarship covering tuition, books, lab fees, uniforms and all other incidental to education expenses plus a $100 monthly stipend.

Brandon and Sharice Clough, son and daughter of Christopher and Deb Clough, swept every special ribbon in the amateur, 16 and under, division at the Iowa Taxidermy Association annual show and competition. Brandon earned Best Entry, Best Mammal by Safari Club and Best Mount by Ducks Unlimited while Sharice was named Best Pheasant Mount by Pheasants Forever.
