WATERLOO - North Iowa Cedar League newcomer Waterloo Columbus made itself at home Tuesday, winning all nine flights of the NICL boys' tennis tournament for the team title at Byrnes Park.
Aplington-Parkersburg scored runner-up honors in eight of nine positions to place second. The host Sailors scored 72 points and were trailed by A-P (62), Grundy Center (48), Union (40), South Tama (34), South Hardin (29) and Dike-New Hartford (20).
Grundy Center placed fourth or better at eight of the nine flights, led by a runner-up finish from Jarrett Stoner at No. 5 singles. The Spartan sophomore scored three wins on the day, starting with an 8-5 victory over South Tama's Wes Robinson. Stoner then edged A-P's Scott Eiklenborg, 9-8, before falling 8-3 to Columbus junior Eliott Kuchera in the finals.
Ethan Hogle defeated Union's Joel Wauters in the third-place match at No. 2 singles, while the rest of Grundy Center's singles players - Drew Sharp, Andrew Day, Dalton Haverkamp and Jared Clapp - placed fourth.
Sharp and Hogle notched an 8-2 victory over Dike-New Hartford's Sean Daley and Jakob Luna to take third at No. 1 doubles, while Clapp and Stoner prevailed 8-2 over Union's Brandon Hill and Jared Frost for the bronze.
Day and Haverkamp came in sixth at No. 2 doubles.

South Tama's leading performance came from the No. 6 singles position, where Junior Anaya rebounded from a semifinal shutout loss to defeat Clapp in the third-place match. The Trojans got fifth-place finishes from Ruben Garcia at No. 2 singles, Will Henson at No. 3, Robinson at No. 5, and the doubles teams of Henson and Garcia at No. 2 and Robinson and Anaya at No. 3.
South Hardin's top finish was the fourth-place result for the No. 2 doubles tandem of Josiah Dorow and Ben Stanish. Micah Dorow took fifth at No. 1 singles and Stanish scored the same at No. 4 singles.
