LE GRAND - Nothing like a 10-run inning to get things going.
The Class 3A No. 3-ranked East Marshall softball team took advantage of a bunch of walks and needed only five hits to hammer out a 13-1, three-inning victory over visiting GMG on Tuesday night.
The Mustangs (17-3) won their 12th straight as junior pitcher Mariah Fritz allowed only one hit and no walks while striking out five.
Taylor Fricke, Bobbi Amendt and Maci Fritz each ripped a double, while Mariah Fritz and Haley Long both had singles to account for East Marshall's hits. Long and Kylee Hoskey both drove in a team-leading two runs.
GMG eight-grader Haley Stahl took the loss, allowing nine earned runs while walking 13. She struck out one.
The Wolverines (1-9) scored their lone run in the top of the third inning when Laura Landt singled, moved up on a passed ball and took third on a groundout. She crossed home plate when Alexa Peters grounded out.
GMG tries to snap its six-game losing streak tonight at home against CAL in Iowa Star Conference play. The Wolverines host Don Bosco on Friday.
East Marshall makes up the second game of Monday's postponed NICL West Division doubleheader against West Marshall tonight in Le Grand at 6 p.m.

CONRAD - Four runs in each of the first three innings allowed the Class 2A No. 15 BCLUW softball team to end the opener of Monday's NICL West Division game early, and the Comets completed the sweep with a 13-1, six-inning win on Tuesday.
The Comets (15-4, 10-3) scored four runs in the first, second and third innings and tallied 11 hits in Monday's opener. Olivia Callaway, Kayla Fisher and Kayla Benjamin each had two hits. Callaway knocked in two runs while Fisher scored twice.
Callaway tossed a no-hitter in the win, striking out six and hitting one batter.
Game two was suspended with the Comets leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth. BCLUW finished off the sweep by putting up four runs in the fourth, six in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Becca Steckelberg's three-run home run - her second of the season - ended the game.
Steckelberg finished 3-for-4 with two singles, a homer, three runs scored and five RBIs. Mallory Vawter was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Callaway was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Nicolette Simpson struck out 10, walked none and allowed only two hits in the win. Landry Luhring took the loss for Grundy Center (2-13, 2-11), striking out two and walking four.
BCLUW travels to South Hardin in league play Thursday, while Grundy Center hosts West Marshall.
