DUNKERTON - North Tama junior Brody Hulme struck out 12 over seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit as the Redhawks outlasted Dunkerton 1-0 in Iowa Star Conference baseball action Wednesday night.
The Redhawks managed just three hits of their own against Dunkerton senior Jordan Kubitz, but it proved to be enough.
Brandon Kaufman reached base on a fielder's choice in the top of the sixth, stole second and scored on Cameron Hoeg's single through the right side.
Hoeg was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and Will Earley had the Redhawks' only other hit.
Kubitz struck out six and hit a batter but took the loss for the Raiders.
North Tama (7-8, 4-4) leaves conference play to face county rival South Tama on Friday night in Tama.
GMG 10, CAL 3
GREEN MOUNTAIN - Building off its early cushion, GMG erupted for six runs in the sixth to pull away from CAL, 10-3, in Iowa Star Conference action Wednesday.
Bridger Claassen batted 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored as the Wolverines (8-5, 6-2) regrouped from Tuesday's road loss to East Marshall to earn their seventh win in their last eight games. Noah Thurston drove in a pair of runs and scored once, while batting 1-of-3 as GMG took a 4-0 lead into the sixth.
Jacob Burt claimed the win on the mound allowing two runs on one hit, while striking out eight and walking six in five frames. He helped his cause with an RBI and hit 1-of-4.
The Cadets (3-6, 3-4) did all their scoring in the sixth led by Juan Gomez who hit 1-of-3 with an RBI. Austin Guerrero was saddled with the loss.
The Wolverines host Don Bosco in conference play Friday at 7 p.m.
Northeast Hamilton 15, Colo-NESCO 6
ZEARING - Scoring at least three runs in four of its at-bats, Northeast Hamilton broke away from Colo-NESCO for a 15-6 victory in Iowa Star Conference play Wednesday.
The Trojans put three runs across in the first, fifth and sixth, while also tallying four in the second. The Royals (3-9, 2-4) pulled within 9-6 after four innings but couldn't keep pace as Brady Stoeffler took the loss allowing seven runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 1 2/3 innings.
Grant Tiarks powered the offense hitting 2-of-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored. Stoeffler hit 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a run scored as Colo-NESCO lost its fourth straight.
The Royals travel to Colfax-Mingo for a non-conference JV/varsity doubleheader today at 5:30 p.m.
