46 jobs to be cut at hospital in central Iowa
AP
NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — A hospital in Newton in central Iowa says it will cut 46 jobs.
Skiff Medical Center's board of trustees says the cuts are necessary because the bad economy caused the hospital to lose $174,000 in September. The hospital is about 35 miles east of Des Moines.
Hospital officials say they will have to lay off 23 employees and hope to cut the other 23 jobs through attrition. Hospital officials also say they will reduce hours for another 51 employees.
