SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat sophs sweep Waterloo East
WATERLOO – The Marshalltown sophomore baseball team mowed through Waterloo East on Tuesday, taking a sweep by scores of 7-3 and 18-2 in five innings.
Jake Sponselor tossed six innings of two-hit ball in the opener, striking out four in the win. Sam Rogers was credited with a save for his inning of relief.
Kyler Ladehoff was 4-for-4 with a double, two triples and four RBIs to lead the Bobcats offensiveliy. Luke Severson was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three runs scored, while Cole Keeler drove in two.
In the second game, MHS scored seven times in the top of the first inning and cruised to the win. The Bobcats added four in the third and six in the fifth, racking up 15 hits behind Keeler. Keeler struck out nine in the five-inning win, giving up just four hits and two walks, and also starred at the plate with a 3-for-4 day with an RBI and three runs scored.
Sam Rogers was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Ladehoff was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs. Reese Hagement went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Golf event to benefit South Hardin, BCLUW boosters
ELDORA – Hardin County Savings Bank is hosting the HCSB Golf Classic on Thursday. The four-person best shot event to be held at Pine Lake Country Club has 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. tee times and a lunch running from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Proceeds from the tournament will go toward cancer research as well as the athletic boosters for both South Hardin and BCLUW schools. Entry fee is $200 per team, and businesses may also sponsor a hole.
