West Marshall girls second in Jefferson

JEFFERSON – Madie Streeter raced to her third straight medalist performance and the Class 1A No. 12 West Marshall girls’ cross country team placed second at the Greene County Invite Thursday.

Streeter finished fifth in 16 minutes, 55 seconds, to lead West Marshall to second in the 10-team field with 72 points. Eighth-ranked Panorama took the team title with 39 points.

Ashlee Johnson (8th, 17:23), Allison Hilleman (17th, 17:53) and Shannon Breja (20th, 18:18) also captured medals for West Marshall, while Georgia Porter (23rd, 18:38) completed the team tally.

Des Moines Christian (82), IKM-Manning (93) and CMB (118) rounded out the top five. No individual results were available for Colo-NESCO (276), which placed 10th.

The West Marshall boys took eighth out of 12 squads with a score of 189. Southeast Valley topped the field with 71 points.

Edison Weig propelled the Trojans with a 20th-place clocking of 19:25. Also competing for West Marshall were Austin Grimm (28th, 19:48), Garrett Nichols (48th, 20:44), Colton Bittner (56th, 21:06) and Josh Marrow (58th, 21:09).

West Marshall travels to South Tama County Monday.
