Hole-in-one dialed up at the Legion

Marshalltown’s Bruce Weir scored a hole-in-one at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course on Tuesday, acing the 173-yard 13th hole with his 4-iron.

Weir’s shot was witnessed by Kevin Malloy, Dick Klar and Al Knight.

Iowa State’s Bibbs earns weekly award

AMES – Iowa State all-Big 12 tight end E.J. Bibbs was named the College Football Performance Award tight end performer of the week. It marks the second time in the last three weeks where Bibbs has earned the honor.

Bibbs had a career-high with 10 receptions that gained him 73 yards with two touchdowns in Saturday’s 48-45 loss at Texas. The Chicago native ranks second nationally in catches by a tight end (32) and has the most touchdowns scored by a tight end with six.

Bibbs, a senior, has caught a pass in 19 straight games, tying for the sixth-longest streak in school history.

Drake’s Ormseth nets weekly honor

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University senior cornerback Drew Ormseth has been named the Pioneer Football League Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Ormseth earned the honor by virtue of a 39-yard interception return for a touchdown against Valparaiso on Saturday that sealed the Bulldogs’ 17-9 win. Ormseth also added a pair of tackles and was part of a defensive effort that allowed just 176 yards.

On the season, Ormseth has recorded 12 tackles, one for a loss, and defended two passes.

Ormseth and the Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they host Butler in a Homecoming clash. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
