MHS freshmen rally past Little Cyclones

The Marshalltown freshman boys basketball team won 59-54 against Ames at Marshalltown Community College on Friday.

Leading the Bobcats (6-8) was Josh Melde with 22 points. Melde made four shots from beyond the arc. Luke Appel made a few clutch free throws in the final minute of the game and scored 18 points.

Marshalltown’s freshman ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams will face Southeast Polk at MCC on Tuesday.

Bobcat sophomore boys fall to rivals

The Marshalltown sophomore boys’ basketball team suffered a 54-40 loss at the hands of Central Iowa Conference Northern Division rival Ames on Friday at Marshalltown Community College.

Spencer Dempewolf led the Bobcats with 19 points, while TJ Snyder contributed nine points and Austin Tullis had six more.

MHS (3-11) returns to action Tuesday at home against Southeast Polk.

Gatwech leads MHS JV girls to victory

Nya Gatwech had a game-high 14 points to go with five rebounds in leading the Marshalltown junior varsity girls’ basketball team to a 26-19 triumph over Ames in Friday’s Central Iowa Conference Northern Division collision.

Vanessa Vergara added five points and Ciara Feldman had four points, seven steals and five rebounds for MHS, which pulled ahead at the end of the first quarter 10-7 and outscored the Little Cyclones 4-0 in the second period.
