No. 8 Iowa St. matmen clobber Sun Devils 27-6
AMES – Third-ranked Earl Hall’s technical fall at 133 pounds highlighted a run of six straight Cyclone wins to close the dual as the No. 8-ranked Iowa State wrestling team trounced Arizona State 27-6 on Friday night at Hilton Coliseum.
Third-ranked Michael Moreno (165) gave the Cyclones the lead for good with his major decision in the second bout of the match, and Iowa State won eight of 10 bouts to improve to 9-2 overall.
Tanner Weatherman (174), Kyven Gadson (197), Quean Smith (285), Kyle Larson (123), Hall, Dante Rodriguez (141) and Gabe Moreno (149) made it an easy win for the Cyclones.
The 12th-ranked Weatherman scored a late takedown to secure his 4-1 decision over Ray Waters at 174, helping him improve to 20-7 this season.
Gadson, rated No. 2, moved to 21-1 with his 12-7 decision at 197, starting a string of six straight ISU wins to finish off the Sun Devils (7-7).
Next up for the Cyclones is dual against Northern Iowa on Sunday at 2 p.m. Iowa State hosts the match, which will be televised by Cyclones.tv.
