Tiger bats can’t keep pace with Indian Hills
CENTERVILLE – The Marshalltown Community College baseball team didn’t have enough offense left in the late innings to keep pace with Indian Hills as the Warriors won 8-5 in a non-conference contest here Friday.
Indian Hills got out to a 3-0 lead after one inning, but MCC eventually fought back to tie the score at 4-all. A four-run bottom of the fifth chased Tigers starting pitcher Wyatt Stark from the mound and put the Warriors in front to stay.
MCC outhit the Warriors 10-8 and only made one error, but Indian Hills pitching recorded 13 strikeouts to minimize the Tigers’ productive outs.
Logan Holtz led the MCC offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate that included an RBI triple. Alexis Melendez was 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored, and Hunter Embray was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Stark (1-1) took the loss, allowing all eight IHCC runs – seven earned – over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four, walked four and hit two batters. Thomas Sanchez and Todd Oberthien combined to pitch 3 1/3 innings of one-hit relief.
Marshalltown CC (3-9) is back on the diamond today in Centerville, meeting St. Cloud Tech at 12:30 p.m. and Hibbing CC at 5:30 p.m.
