Final player field set for Principal Charity Classic
DES MOINES – The Principal Charity Classic presented by Wells Fargo announced the final field for next week’s tournament, highlighted by 16 of the top 20 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.
Defending champion Tom Pernice Jr. will be joined by World Golf Hall of Famers Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle and Larry Nelson. In addition, fan favorites Davis Love III, Jesper Parnevik, Rocco Mediate, Fuzzy Zoeller and Des Moines native Tom Purtzer will compete.
Sponsor exemptions Guy Boros, a University of Iowa graduate, 1993 Tour Championship winner Jim Gallagher Jr., 1979 NCAA individual champion Gary Hallberg, five-time Champions Tour winner John Jacobs, and two-time winner Willie Wood round out the final field.
The 2015 Principal Charity Classic will take place June 2-7 at Wakonda Club with a purse of $1.725 million. The field will be comprised of 81 players in the 54-hole stroke-play event.
Last year’s Principal Charity Classic donated more than $1.3 million to local children’s charities, bringing the tournament’s eight-year charitable distribution to more than $6.3 million.
