Rebels rough up Vinton-Shellsburg

REINBECK – Nicole Adair scored six goals, Kyleah Dugan added a pair and the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls’ soccer team needed just 47 minutes to take down Vinton-Shellsburg 10-0 in Tuesday’s Class 1A Region 5 quarterfinal match.

The Rebels (9-7) advance to face sixth-ranked Union (13-5), which defeated Hudson 5-1 in its quarterfinal contest. The Knights host G-R on Friday at 6 p.m. in La Porte City in a rematch of last year’s regional semifinals.

Union topped the Rebels 5-4 in their only meeting this season.

In Tuesday’s postseason opener, Gladbrook-Reinbeck got a goal and an assist from Hanna Christopher, Hayley Weber scored a goal, and Megan Swanson had two assists. Bailea Evenson made seven saves in the Rebels’ shutout win.

Falcons finish off Webster City

APLINGTON – Stephanie Faust, Amanda Taylor and Harper Wells had two goals apiece as the Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center girls’ soccer team dispatched Webster City 9-2 in Tuesday’s Class 1A Region 4 quarterfinal.

The host Falcons (9-7) advance to face No. 7 Denver, which downed Clear Lake 9-0. Friday’s regional semifinal is at 6 p.m. in Denver.

Faust finished with three assists for AP/GC, while Madie Kuester had a goal and an assist. Nicole Sharp and Brittany Van Sickle both scored a goal, and Wells added an assist to her tally.

In shared time in net, Van Sickle and Brianna Heltibridle had one save apiece.
