Iowa-ISU game moved to Dec. 10

AMES – Officials in Ames say the Iowa-Iowa State men’s basketball game has been rescheduled to accommodate national television coverage.

The game has been moved up a day, to Dec. 10. The start time and network will be announced later.

It will be Cyclone head coach Steve Prohm’s first game against the in-state rival Hawkeyes. Prohm has been hired to replace Fred Hoiberg, who’s been hired to coach the NBA’s Chicago Bulls.

Big 12 adds 6 affiliates for wrestling

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Big 12 Conference has added six universities as affiliate members to the postseason wrestling championship.

The conference says that Air Force, Northern Colorado, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming will join Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa State and West Virginia in future Big 12 Wrestling Championships.

The affiliate member additions are effective beginning with the 2015-16 academic year. Affiliate members will compete for the conference’s postseason championship and the league’s automatic qualification to NCAA postseason competition.

CBS Sports inks agreement with MVC

CEDAR FALLS – CBS Sports has reached a multi-year agreement to televise Missouri Valley Conference college basketball games on the CBS Television Network and CBS Sports Network. The deal, which begins this season and continues through 2019-20, is through a sublicense agreement with ESPN.

CBS Sports will continue to broadcast the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Championship game, which it has aired for 10 consecutive years. Arch Madness coverage extends to CBS Sports Network, which for the first time will televise the tournament semi-finals, as well as eight regular-season games per year.

Warfield to leave Iowa football team

IOWA CITY – University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz announced Thursday that defensive back Solomon Warfield will transfer from the Hawkeye football program.

“Solomon has elected to complete his athletic and academic careers elsewhere, leaving the University of Iowa and our program” said Ferentz. “We appreciate his contributions during his time with Iowa football and wish him the best with his decision.”

Warfield is a native of Lorain, Ohio, where he attended St. Edward High School. Warfield redshirted as a true freshman in 2013. Last season he saw action in one game, Iowa’s win over Indiana, but had no statistics.
