Comets downed by ranked foes

LA PORTE CITY – The BCLUW volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Thursday night, falling 3-1 to Class 3A No. 2 Union Community (21-25, 25-10, 25-19, 25-20), and 2-1 to 1A No. 1 Janesville (25-13, 16-25, 15-10).

Olivia Callaway had 10 kills for the Comets (1-2) against Union. Samantha Ubben added four kills, and Jordyn Beeghly, Nicole Lutes and Hannah Sams had three kills each. Bobbi Paper had 17 assists and six digs. Ubben had eight digs, and Callaway had seven. Ubben also had three aces.

Against Janesville, Callaway had nine kills, Sams added five and Ubben had four. Paper had 14 assists. Callaway had six digs, while Kaylee Goecke, Mikaela Simpson and Ubben had four each. Paper had three aces, Callaway had two and Lutes served up one ace.

Pirates take three from East Marshall

HUDSON – The East Marshall volleyball was swept by Hudson in cross-NICL action Thursday, 25-6, 25-16, 25-13.

Brooke Miller led the Mustangs with four kills and was 6-for-6 serving. Juliana Arifi had three kills and three blocks, and Tiana Bolar had two kills and was 8-for-8 serving.

Brooke Finders had two blocks and Brittany Anderson had a team-high 10 digs for East Marshall (1-5).
