Comets go 3-0 to take Roland-Story tourney

STORY CITY – Olivia Callaway racked up team-highs of 18 kills and 27 digs to help the BCLUW volleyball team take first place at the Roland-Story Tournament on Monday night.

The Comets improved to 16-3 overall with 2-0 sweeps of South Hardin (21-6, 21-13), Greene County (21-18, 21-16) and Newton (21-13, 21-8).

Hannah Sams had three of her team-leading seven blocks in the title match against Newton, while Callaway led the Comets with seven kills. Sam Ubben served 15-for-15 with two aces in the finals.

Sams tallied 10 kills and Jordyn Beeghly added eight more for BCLUW at the net, and setter Bobbi Paper piled up 36 assists. She also had five blocks and 14 digs on the night. Beeghly, too, had five blocks.

Nicole Lutes had 10 of her 18 digs in the match against Greene County. Paper served 23-for-23 with two aces while Ubben went 26-for-28 with a pair of aces as well.

The Comets go back out on the road tonight to face East Marshall in NICL West Division action, and Aplington-Parkersburg hosts BCLUW in league play Thursday.
