Royals rout Redhawks in league play

COLO – Five players scored in double figures as Colo-NESCO clobbered North Tama 92-27 in an Iowa Star Conference clash here Friday night.

Brady Stoeffler and Tanner Clatt led the Royals with 18 points apiece, Christian Reischauer and Garret Tiarks had 17 each, and Grant Tiarks tallied eight points, 12 rebounds and eight steals.

Ben Panfil paced North Tama with 12 points.

Rebels rough up South Hardin boys

REINBECK – Joe Smoldt continued his torrid start and Gladbrook-Reinbeck improved to 3-0 with a 62-29 victory over visiting South Hardin in Friday’s NICL West Division boys’ basketball game.

Smoldt made four 3-pointers, led with seven assists and shared team-high honors with six rebounds as the Rebels (3-0, 2-0) cruised to their 31st straight win.

Tyler Eiffler finished with 13 points and six rebounds, while Josh Cooley contributed nine points and six steals for G-R.

No statistics were available for South Hardin (2-3, 1-1).

Grundy Center topples West Marshall

GRUNDY CENTER – The West Marshall boys basketball team sustained a 46-37 loss to NICL West opponent Grundy Center on Friday.

The Spartans (4-1, 3-0) were led by Austin Burroughs with 10 points. Chase Boren added on nine points.

David Disney led the Trojans (0-6, 0-3) with game-high 17 points and four rebounds. Beau Coberley also reached double figures with 11 points and five assists.

West Marshall will face Colo-NESCO today and Grundy Center will host NICL West opponent Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Tuesday.

Spartans sneak past No. 14 Trojans

STATE CENTER – Katie Lindeman scored a game-high 13 points as the Grundy Center girls’ basketball team rallied past Class 3A No. 14 West Marshall for a 36-33 victory in Friday’s NICL West Division showdown.

Alyssa Mathews added 10 points and Brooke Flater had six for the Spartans, who trailed by 10 points late in the third quarter before outscoring West Marshall 16-3 over the last nine minutes of the game.

Brooke Snider led West Marshall with 12 points, Madie Streeter added 10 points and Gabby Reyerson finished with eight. Shannon Breja led the Trojans (3-1, 2-1) with six rebounds and five steals, but West Marshall shot 1-for-9 from the field in the fourth quarter.

Colo-NESCO fights off rival Redhawks

COLO – Grace Stalzer’s double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds helped the Colo-NESCO girls’ basketball team beat back North Tama 42-36 in Friday’s Iowa Star Conference contest.

Faith Vincent added eight points and five boards, and Chelsea Henze contributed seven points for the Royals (5-0, 5-0).

Madison Howard had a game-high 21 points to lead North Tama.

GMG girls overtake Waterloo Christian

WATERLOO – A double-double performance by Blaire Sonderleiter propelled the GMG girls basketball team to a 45-36 victory over Waterloo Christian (1-5, 1-4) in an Iowa Star matchup on Friday.

Sonderleiter scored career-high 24 points and had 11 rebounds. Mable Dieleman added on nine points for GMG (3-2, 2-2).

Leading the Regents was Whitney Smith with 13 points.

Melde’s 22 leads Marshalltown sophs

The Marshalltown sophomore boys’ basketball team improved to 4-1 with Friday’s 58-45 win over Mason City in Central Iowa Conference Northern Division action at Lenihan Intermediate School.

Josh Melde poured in 22 points to lead the Bobcats in the win. Nate Vance and Blake Linsenmeyer both finished with 12 points, and Sam Irwin chipped in 10 points for MHS.

The Bobcats are back in action on Tuesday against Boone.

Bobcat frosh foil visiting Mason City

Wade Canaday racked up 22 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Marshalltown freshman boys’ basketball team to a 57-43 victory over Mason City on Friday at Lenihan.

Bennett O’Hare made three 3-pointers on his way to nine points, while Dylan Eygabroad and Dru Dobbins both contributed nine points as well for MHS.

The Bobcats (2-3) are back on the court Tuesday for an ‘A’ game against Boone at Lenihan. The MHS freshman ‘B’ unit meets Indianola at 8 p.m. Monday at the Roundhouse.
