Ubben, Comets back into win column
WAVERLY – Samantha Ubben scored a team-leading 21 points as the BCLUW girls’ basketball team beat Hudson 52-37 on Saturday at the NICL Shootout at Wartburg College.
Ubben finished 6-of-8 from the field and 9-for-9 at the free-throw line to lead the Comets (2-3) back into the win column after back-to-back losses. Olivia Callaway came away with 10 points, Hannah Sams added eight points, and Kaylee Goecke contributed six points.
Easton Swanson and Sams both led the Comets with seven rebounds.
Gabi Petry led Hudson (2-2) with 17 points.
BCLUW is back in action with Tuesday’s NICL West Division contest at AGWSR.
No. 7 Kirkwood clubs MCC women
CEDAR RAPIDS – The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team fell to NJCAA Division II’s seventh-ranked Kirkwood Eagles 65-21 on Saturday.
Shyannon Wolf led the Tigers with nine points. The Meskwaki Settlement School graduate connected on three 3-pointers in the loss. JeAnn Hiraldo added five points and four rebounds while Accacia Huff grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
MCC (4-8) connected on just 8-of-47 field-goal attempts, going 3-for-23 from 3-point range to contribute to the loss. The Tigers committed 21 turnovers and got outrebounded 38-23 as well.
A.J. Downs led Kirkwood (8-3) with 12 points. Eleven different players scored for the Eagles, who led 43-4 at the half. It was their fifth consecutive win.
The Tigers return home to take on Southwestern CC at 6 p.m. Wednesday night at the Student Activity Center.
MHS JV?matmen crown four champs
DES MOINES – The Marshalltown High School junior varsity wrestlers had four champions on Saturday at the Des Moines North JV Wrestling Invite.
Keygan Hansen, Oswaldo Rodriguez, Wyatt Himes and Chayton French were the four victorius Bobcat wrestlers. Himes won all three of his matches by fall. Hansen, Rodriguez and French each went 3-0, with each wrestler picking up two pins along the way.
Jordan Fox and Kegan Jass posted second-place finishes. Fox collected one pin, and Jass won one of his matches by a technical fall.
The Bobcats go to Pleasant Hill for a 5:30 p.m. double dual Thursday against Southeast Polk and Dowling Catholic.
