Bobcat wrestlers win 2.5 matches at Ankeny Duals

ANKENY – With a tie against Sioux City North, the?Marshalltown matmen secured a 2.5-win day with two dual wins at the end of the day at the Ankeny duals Saturday.

Despite dropping the first two duals of the afternoon, the Bobcats were able to storm back to 2 1/2 wins Saturday afternoon. It all started with Reese Hageman fighting for a pin in overtime in the final match of the Bobcats dual with Sioux City North.

Hageman got a takedown and pin in extra time to give the Bobcats the tie at 36-36, but lost on criteria.

Marshalltown would go on to win its next two duals – a 46-24 win against Bondurant-Farrar and a 53-24 win against Spencer.

Three Bobcat wrestlers went 5-0 on the afternoon. Ryan Bitker was undefeated at the 113-pound level. Bitker had two pins on the afternoon.

Josh Edel joined his teammate with a perfect 5-0 record as well, accompanied with two pins. And Devan Mann was also 5-0 with two pins.

Hageman finished the day 4-1 with the exciting victory in overtime against his Sioux City North oppoonent.

At the 220-pound weight class, Luis Ortiz claimed his first win of the season as well.
