GMG girls score fourth straight victory
GARWIN – GMG jumped out to a 19-4 lead after the opening quarter and cruised to a 67-41 Iowa Star Conference victory over Waterloo Christian, making it four straight wins in league play for the Wolverines.
Blaire Sonderleiter led GMG (9-8, 8-6) with 16 points. McKensie Vaske racked up 12 points, Josie Claassen had 10, and the Wolverines got seven points each from Kelsey Vaverka, Zoe Duncan and Mable Dieleman.
It marks GMG’s seventh win in its last eight games.
Whitney Smith led Waterloo Christian (3-16, 3-13) with 12 points, Sydney Nystrom had 11 and Kristin Kimball added eight.
GMG plays a conference game on the road today at 3 p.m. at Riceville.
Coberley’s career-high hoists Trojans
STATE CENTER – Beau Coberley scored a career-high 20 points, making a trio of free throws down the stretch, to help West Marshall avenge a one-point loss to BCLUW in Friday’s NICL West Division contest.
Alex Dickey added nine points on three 3-pointers to go with six steals and three assists, and David Disney had five points and seven rebounds for the Trojans (3-13, 3-6). Coberley had five steals and Garrett Nichols tallied six boards for West Marshall, which lost 47-46 at BCLUW in their first meeting this season.
Josh Sharp came off the bench to lead BCLUW (3-12, 1-8) with 15 points. Brad Barkema and Clay Silver scored seven points apiece.
Bobcat frosh fall at Mason City
MASON CITY – The Marshalltown freshman girls’ basketball team suffered a 34-24 defeat at the hands of Mason City in Friday’s Central Iowa Conference Northern Division game.
Yatnia Hernandez led the Bobcats with eight points.
