Reischauer leads Royals past Dons
GILBERTVILLE – Christian Reischauer matched his season-high scoring output with 21 points, leading all scorers and the Class 1A No. 8 Colo-NESCO boys’ basketball team to a 62-45 victory over Don Bosco in Friday’s Iowa Star Conference clash.
Tanner Clatt and Grant Tiarks added 12 points apiece, and Brady Stoeffler finished with 10 points as the Royals (10-1, 9-0) remained unbeaten in league play.
The loss was the first in nine games for Don Bosco (9-5, 8-3), which lost 90-34 to the Royals on Dec. 4 in Colo.
Hoeg helps Redhawks top Riceville
TRAER – Cameron Hoeg’s double-double performance led North Tama (5-9, 5-7) boys basketball to a 62-56 victory over Iowa Star opponent Riceville (4-9, 4-8) on Friday.
The Redhawks had four players reach double figures. Hoeg scored game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. Logan Zobel, Ben Panfil, and Jake Hlas each scored 10 points.
John Miller led the Wildcats with 20 points. Grant Shedenhelm scored 13 points.
Wolverines send CAL’s skid to 18
GARWIN – CAL girls basketball are now on an 18-game skid after Iowa Star opponent GMG won 59-23 on Friday.
The Wolverines led 39-10 at halftime after outscoring the Cadets 20-3 in the 2nd quarter.
GMG (6-8, 5-7) was led by Blaire Sonderleiter’s 17 points. Katie Airey added on nine points. McKensie Vaske and Josie Claassen each scored eight points.
Dianna Porzio led CAL (0-10, 0-9) with game-high 18 points.
No. 7 Rebels paste Waterloo Columbus
WATERLOO – Joe Smoldt led five players in double figures with 28 points to go with seven assists and four steals, helping Class 1A No. 7 Gladbrook-Reinbeck defeat Waterloo Columbus in Thursday’s cross-NICL boys’ basketball contest.
Tyler Pierce, Matt Roeding, Caden Kickbush and Josh Cooley each contributed 11 points, Tyler Eiffler had nine and Jake Schuman added eight for the Rebels (9-1), who led 22-2 after the opening quarter.
It was the fourth win in a row for G-R, and the fifth consecutive loss for the Sailors (1-9).
Gladbrook-Reinbeck faces Anamosa in the 7 p.m. finale of the NICL Shootout tonight at Wartburg College in Waverly.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck 47, Waterloo Columbus 46, OT
WATERLOO – Taylor Gienger made 1-of-2 free throws with 6.9 seconds left in overtime to lift the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls’ basketball team to its first win, a 47-46 victory over winless Waterloo Columbus here Thursday night.
Gienger finished with 12 points while Hayley Weber led the Rebels to their first victory with 15 points. Megan Swanson added 10 points for G-R (1-12).
Olivia Fain netted a game-high 16 points to pace the Sailors (0-13).
