Tigers surge to 6-1 with Saturday’s pair of wins
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Marshalltown Community College softball team rallied for a pair of wins at THE Spring Games on Saturday, defeating Spoon River College 8-5 and Triton College 7-6.
The Tigers (6-1) trailed 5-0 with one out in the bottom of the first inning against Spoon River before pitcher Paige Taylor entered the game, baffling the Snappers the rest of the way. She allowed just three hits while striking out 12 the rest of the way, and MCC’s offense overcame a 5-4 deficit with four runs in the top of the sixth.
Lauren Wolfe and Courtney Fudge both delivered two-run doubles to get the Tigers over the top for the 8-5 win.
Taylor Anderson, Sarah Ghee and Fudge each went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Tigers’ 10-hit attack.
MCC rallied back from a three-run, top-of-the-first deficit against Triton College, breaking a 5-all tie with a two-run tally in the bottom of the fourth thanks to Raini Hilmer’s two-run home run.
Wolfe went 2 2/3 scoreless innings in the circle for the win, allowing three hits while striking out five. Taylor allowed a run in two frames for the save.
