Bobcat girls net one win at 2A regional tournament
FORT DODGE – The Marshalltown girls’ tennis team came away with one win from the Class 2A regional individual tournament here Thursday.
Emily Miller picked up the lone Bobcat victory, defeating Sioux City North’s Grace Nashleanas 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round of singles play. Miller was then defeated by Ames’ third-seeded Angela Zheng.
Maggie Grimm was ousted in straight sets for MHS, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Emily Hoesing of Sioux City East.
In doubles competition, the Bobcats’ top tandem of Immaculate Edwin and Kaitlyn Martin fell 6-2, 6-1 to Emma Cai and Carly Watson of Ames in their opening-round bout. The other MHS pairing of Olivia Ryan and Libby Loney was eliminated in the first round, too. Sioux City East’s Rachel Rigby and Mercedes Waugh advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
The Bobcat girls host regional team tournament action on Saturday starting at 9 a.m., when MHS meets Des Moines Roosevelt.
