Hawks get first win at Bobcats’ expense
ANKENY – The Ankeny girls’ tennis team tallied its first dual meet victory of the season at Marshalltown’s expense here Thursday, beating back the Bobcats 8-3 in Central Iowa Conference action.
Marshalltown (1-11) trailed 5-1 after singles play before rallying behind the back end of its doubles lineup. The No. 4 tandem of Libby Loney and Sarah Jacobs scored a three-set thriller, 3-6, 6-3, (10-5), and the No. 5 pair of Aubrey Hala and Sydney Mann made off with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 triumph.
Immaculate Edwin accounted for Marshalltown’s only other match win, scoring a 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles in the final regular-season dual for MHS.
All eight wins for Ankeny (1-8) were straight-setters.
The Bobcats are off until May 19, when they visit Fort Dodge for their Class 2A singles and doubles regional. Marshalltown has a first-round bye in regional dual team play and will host either Des Moines East or Des Moines Roosevelt at 9 a.m. May 21 at the MHS courts.
