MHS golf fundraiser set for June 14

The American Legion Memorial Golf Course is hosting the Marshalltown High School Athletics Fundraiser four-person best shot golf event on June 14.

The tournament will be broken up into two sessions, the first starting at 8 a.m. and the second session beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Entry fees, which include green fees, cart, lunch and prizes, are $75 per person for either the morning or the afternoon session. The desire to play both sessions will cost an extra $25 per golfer ($100).

Ferentz, Brands coming for I-Club

IOWA CITY – University of Iowa football head coach Kirk Ferentz and wrestling coach Tom Brands will be coming to Marshalltown on May 10 at the Elmwood Country Club at 5:30 p.m.

The University of Iowa Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and I-Club will be at the annual spring outreach event along with other coaches from the two sports’ staffs.

Fans of all ages are encouraged to go, with a dinner, cash refreshments, coaches’ panel, photo opportunities, door prizes and more to be included.

Bobcat boys’ hoops camp is June 6-9

Marshalltown High School boys’ basketball coach Scott Smith will direct the Bobcat Boys’ Basketball Camp this summer at the Roundhouse for boys entering grades 5-12 for the 2016-17 school year.

The camp will run from June 6-9. The camp for those grades 9-12 will operate in the morning from 9-11:30 a.m. The camp for grades 5-8 will run in the afternoon from 12:30-3 p.m. Assistant coach Todd Beare and former Bobcat players will be a part of the camp staff.

The camp will focus on the fundamentals of ball handling, passing, defense, rebounding and shooting with competitions of 1-on-1, 3-on-3 and 5-on-5. The camp also will feature a free-throw competition, hot shot competition and 3-point shooting.

Cost of the camp is $40 per participant for those who register before June 1. After that date, cost rises to $50. Every participant will receive a camp T-shirt.
