14-under wins Clubhouse Divided

STATE CENTER – Wayne Cafferty, Chris Meyers, Mike Burton and Steve Buhrow jump started the Cy-Hawk rivalry a little early this year with their team win in the Lincoln Valley Clubhouse Divided tournament this weekend.

The four golfers shot a 14-under-par 58 Saturday to win the overall tournament. They bested Chris Danielson, Al Illum, Austin Illum and Conner Reyes, who shot 13-under 59 for runner-up in the championship flight.

Racer Hulin, Grant Vanderah, Matt Somerlot and Gage Bauserman were close behind with a 11-under 61, just edging out Jim Thornbury, Duane Mitchell, Lynn Mitchell and Dave Karsjen for third place. Thornbury, Duane, Lynn and Karsjen all shot 10-under 62 for fourth in the championship flight.

Randy Randall, Sam Johnson, Chad Andrews and Tom Eckhart won their flight, the first grouping outside the championship flight with an 8-under 64.

Harvey Varnum, Rod Hunt, Travis Hunt and Josh Brown won the second flight with a 6-under 66 in the second flight. Greg Petermeier, Conley Petermeier, Brady Petermeier and Hunter Pfantz shot a 4-under 68, earning the honors of the third flight winners.

Iowa teams took bragging honors, averaging a score of 66.5, besting Iowa State teams’ 69.5 score.

The men’s longest drive went to Gus Halter and women’s longest drive winner was Lynn Mitchel. Scott Maffett was closest to the pin on No. 8 while Tim Shore sank the longest putt on No. 10.

The best-dressed Hawkeye fan was Linsey Karsjen, while Ann Frost took the best-dressed Cyclone honors. Jim Eckhardt took home the putting contest win for Team Hawkeyes, while Ted Dunn did Team Cyclones proud in the same contest.
