Doug Wilson became the latest member in the hole-in-one club as he aced the the seventh hole at the Collison Par 3 on July 30. Keny Weeks was Wilson’s witness as he used his 8-iron on the shot.

Drake women’s basketball tours Italy

DES MOINES – The Drake women’s basketball team is venturing on a 10-day trip to Italy. Stops for the Bulldogs will include cities such as Rome, Florence, Venice and Como, as well as microstate San Marino.

This is the first time in program history the Bulldogs have embarked on an international summer trip.

Drake will play three exhibition games against foreign competition during the trip on Wednewsday and Thursday in Florence, and Aug. 13 in San Marino.

The team will return home on Aug. 17.

UNI’s Schult pegged for watch list

CHICAGO -?Northern Iowa senior defensive lineman Karter Schult has been named to the STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Year Award Watch List.

Schult is one of 11 defensive ends on the watch list that is comprised of 22 student-athletes from across the country. The Tripoli native is also one of five players representing the Missouri Valley Football Conference, the most from one league on the list.

Schult posted a school record 22.5 tackles for loss last season, adding 14 sacks to be ranked first in the MVFC in both categories. He also had high rankings in the FCS, landing at No. 7 and No. 15 in sacks and tackles for loss after leading a UNI defense that kept opposing rushers at bay with a No. 18 ranked rushing defense.
