GMG scores fourth-straight victory

GARWIN – The GMG volleyball team notched its fourth consecutive win, beating Clarksville in straight sets here Thursday night.

The Wolverines won the Iowa Star Conference opener for both teams, 25-15, 25-9, 25-8.

GMG (4-4, 1-0) was led by Josie Claassen with 10 kills, and Blaire Sonderleiter had nine kills. Katie Airey totaled 23 assists, with McKensie Vaske pitching in five kills.

Sonderleiter led GMG with four blocks, and Chandler Kendall posted a team-best seven digs. The Wolverines served a combined 68-for-70 with 11 aces, with Chandler leading the way going 13-for-13 with four aces.

Hawks come back to beat Mustangs

LE GRAND – The Lynnville-Sully volleyball team go the best of East Marshall on Thursday night in four sets, 25-20, 20-25, 25-27, 19-25.

Juliana Arifi was a perfect 24-for-24 in service with five aces, and tallied nine kills and four blocks in the loss.

Senior Tiana Bolar was 22-for-24 in serves and led the Mustangs (2-6) in digs with 22. Teammate Amanda Paxton was right behind with 20 digs and six kills. Lana Long led the team with 12 assists as well.

McKenzie Hinegardner was 11-for-12 with an ace and 11 assists as well. Brittany Anderson tallied 16 digs and Hinegardner also had 15 to aid the Mustangs’ efforts.

East Marshall hosts Grundy Center on Tuesday for its next match.

Warriors swept by Valley Lutheran

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT – The Meskwaki Warriors volleyball team dropped to 0-6 on the season with a three-set loss to Valley Lutheran in Thursday’s Iowa Star Conference contest. The Warriors were swept by scores of 25-15, 25-22, 26-24.

Abigail IronShell and Tori Lasley led Meskwaki with four kills apiece. Delicia Guevara had team-highs of six assists and five digs, while Lasley led with four total blocks. Guevara served 14-for-14 with an ace for the Warriors (0-6).

West Marshall sweeps AGWSR

STATE CENTER – The West Marshall volleyball team obtained victory in its NICL West Division opener here Thursday night, sweeping AGWSR 25-14, 25-19, 25-14.

No statistics were available for the Trojans (3-5, 1-0).

AGWSR (0-5, 0-1) was led by Mariah Jimmerson with four kills and 8-of-9 serving with three aces. Alana Groninga and Maddie Brandt chipped in with three kills apiece. Groninga paced the Cougar defense with eight digs, while Brandt and Addi Johnson both had seven digs.
