GMG volleyball nets third-straight win
WATERLOO – The GMG volleyball team scored its third-straight victory, sweeping Waterloo Christian 25-6, 25-20, 25-15 in Thursday’s Iowa Star Conference clash.
The Wolverines (13-9, 4-1) were led by Josie Claassen’s 12 kills. Blaire Sonderleiter racked up 10 kills, seven digs and two service aces, and Chandler Kendall added five kills and five digs. Katie Airey compiled 25 assists and an ace, and McKensie Vaske led the way with 11 digs. Claassen, Sonderleiter and Airey each totaled two blocks in the win.
GMG is off a week before closing the regular season with a non-conference match at East Marshall next Thursday.
Mustang netters notch first 3-0 sweep
BROOKLYN – The East Marshall volleyball team notched its first 3-0 sweep this season, beating back BGM 25-17, 28-26, 25-23 in Thursday’s non-conference contest.
The Mustangs (6-17) were led by Juliana Arifi’s 15 kills, four blocks and 12-of-13 serving with two aces. Amanda Paxton piled up 12 kills and 22 digs, and Tiana Bolar added seven kills, 17 digs and 20-of-21 serving with an ace.
Brittany Anderson led the defense with 23 digs, while Shae Fetters and Holly Roseland both chipped in two blocks. Lana Long amassed 21 assists and McKenzie Hinegardner had 19 more.
This marked the ninth-straight loss for BGM (6-17).
East Marshall closes out NICL West Division play on Tuesday night at Gladbrook-Reinbeck.
Redhawks handle Meskwaki volleyball
TRAER – The North Tama volleyball team swept Meskwaki Settlement in Iowa Star South Conference action Tuesday evening 25-10, 25-12, 25-11.
Katie Kopriva led North Tama (12-9, 3-4) with 12 kills and three aces on 10-of-10 serving. Karly Jans scored seven kills. Isabel Sierra had 20 assists, and Takoa Kopriva led the Redhawks with 16 digs. Marika Kopriva had six of North Tama’s 19 aces on 15-of-16 serving.
Meskwaki (3-14, 2-4) was led by Grace Tahahwah with nine kills, and Tori Lasley added seven. Delicia Guevara and Eleina Rivera led the Warriors with six digs apiece.
Ranked Pirates take down Rebels
HUDSON – The Gladbrook-Reinbeck volleyball was swept in straight sets by Class 1A No. 3 Hudson Tuesday in cross-NICL action 25-13, 25-9, 25-8.
Tessa Sienknecht had three of G-R’s (7-15) eight kills. Marissa Berendes led the Rebels with 10 digs, and Karlee Clark added seven. Megan Swanson collected two of the team’s three blocks.
G-R travels to Waverly Shell-Rock for a tournament on Saturday.
No. 12 Independence holds off STC
TAMA – The South Tama County volleyball team gave Class 4A No. 12 Independence everything it had, but the Trojans fell in straight sets Tuesday 26-24, 25-21, 25-19 in WaMaC West Division play.
Maddie Rohach led the Trojans (2-17, 0-6) with six kills. STC recorded 20 assists as a team, of which Sabrina Holtz had 11 and Abbie Parizek had nine. Serea Lowe led the Trojans in digs, picking up 23 of the team’s 92. McKenna Knock had 15, Brycelyn Haughey 13, Grace Jimenez 11 and Sabrina Holtz 10.
STC hosts Vinton-Shellsburg on Tuesday night.
