Hawkeyes run streak to 13

IOWA CITY — Iowa wrestlers won seven of the 10 matches and earned another CyHawk win, making it three-straight days of Hawkeye victories. No. 3 Iowa toppled Iowa State 26-9 on Saturday evening.

Quean Smith earned a 10-5 decision against Steven Holloway to start the evening off with a Cyclone (1-4) win at 285. No. 1 Thomas Gilman earned a tech fall against Iowa State’s No. 18 Markus Simmons to take a 5-3 lead as a response.

No. 10 Earl Hall gave Iowa State its final lead with a 5-3 decision against Iowa’s Phillip Laux at 133. From there, the Hawkeyes (5-0) would go on to win the next six matches. Topher Carton, No. 2 Brandon Sorensen, No. 4 Michael Kemerer, Joey Gunther, No. 7 Alex Meyer and No. 8 Sammy Brooks all grabbed wins in the stretch.

At 174 pounds, the second of two ranked matches saw Meyer defeat No. 10 Lelund Weatherspoon 5-3 to keep the night rolling for the Hawkeyes.

Sorensen won by a major decision (11-3) against Chase Straw and Brooks earned a tech fall against Carson Powell (19-3).

Marcus Harrington capped off the night for the Cyclones with a 4-3 decision win against Cash Wilcke at 197
