SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat bowlers split with Roosevelt

DES MOINES — After a solid win against Mason City, the Marshalltown boys’ bowling team grabbed another win against Des Moines Roosevelt at Air Lanes, winning 3,016-2,629. Kamrin Chizek bowled a 471 to lead the Bobcat boys to victory.

Chizek’s night was a new team-high series for the season, making it the second consecutive meet the record had been broken. Chizek had a season-high series of 471 and individual round of 237.

Carson Potter bowled his third-straight 400-plus game, with a 443 and Zachariah Liskowiak tipped the 400 mark with a 401.

Individually, the 2,094 score was a season-best, and the 3,016 was a second-best mark.

On the girls’ side, the Bobcats fell 2,168-2,117. ShayeLyn Pickett led the way with a 306, while Karlie Potter was right behind with a 293.

The 306 was a season-best for Pickett, while the 719 total bakers’ score was a season-best for the Bobcats as well.

Bowling a 2,117 was the second-highest mark of the year for MHS.

No. 10 Cougars hold off BCLUW girls

CONRAD — Maddie Brandt’s double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds powered the Class 1A No. 10 AGWSR girls’ basketball team past BCLUW in Tuesday’s NICL West Division clash, 50-40.

Mandy Willems had 15 points and six rebounds, Taryan Barrick contributed seven points and Aubrie Fisher added six points for the Cougars (3-0, 2-0), who on Friday host East Marshall in division play.

Samantha Ubben finished with team-highs of 13 points and six rebounds for BCLUW (1-4, 0-2), which shot 4-for-12 from the free-throw line in the loss. Leah Yantis poured in 10 points, Skylar Veldhouse had nine points and Kaylee Goecke added six points. Yantis, Veldhouse and Lauren Anderson each pulled down five rebounds for the Comets, who play Thursday at Waterloo Christian before hosting Dike-New Hartford on Saturday.
