SPORTS SHORTS: West Marshall spurns Colo-NESCO

STATE CENTER — After surviving a Spartan comeback on the road Friday night, the West Marshall boys’ basketball team didn’t let visiting Colo-NESCO try the same, routing the Royals 47-27 Saturday afternoon.

Alex Dickey, David Disney and Cam Bannister all led the way for the Trojans (2-5) with nine points piece, while Disney grabbed eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block in the win.

Jared Larsen had six points; Chandler Sponseller had five, Cole Baccam had four (with four rebounds), Michale Doe had three and Joe Halverson had two in the win.

Matthew Hill led the way for the Royals (3-2) with 11 points. Garret Tiarks and Phillip Bower had four points, Parker Eley and Sean Cutler had three and Bryce Niemeyer had two.

Colo-NESCO hosts Waterloo Christian on Tuesday, while the Trojans host BCLUW Tuesday and hit the road to Eldora on Friday for a match with South Hardin.

GMG falls at Cedar Valley Christian

CEDAR RAPIDS — The GMG girls’ basketball team had the ball, down two points with 14 seconds to play. But an untimely turnover gave away any chance for a road win, and Cedar Valley Christian held on for its first win of the year, 58-52 against the Wolverines on Saturday.

McKensie Vaske had 20 points, Blaire Sonderleiter had 17 and Josie Claassen had seven in the loss.

Maggie Cach had 18 points and Molly Hembera had 12 for CVC (1-5). Both Emma Slagle and Elisabeth Fields had 11 points as well.

Madi Krull had six points and Zoe Duncan tacked on two more for the Wolverines (3-4). The GMG girls will host Iowa Star South foe Clarksville on Tuesday.
