Kirkwood hits 100 on Tigers
CEDAR RAPIDS — A slow start hindered the Marshalltown Community College men in their 100-80 loss to No. 14 Kirkwood on Wednesday night.
Reggie Gradwell led the way, coming off the bench to shoot 3-for-7 from the arc and post 13 points for the Tigers (13-6).
The Eagles (12-3) were just bigger, smarter and better Wednesday night, shooting 54.7 percent from the floor, grabbing 34 rebounds to MCC’s 25 and committed just eight turnovers to MCC’s 13.
Chris King led the way for the Eagles with 21 points, while he shot 60 percent from the floor himself. Kaliph Fagan had 19 off the Eagles’ bench, Miles Wentzien was 50 percent from the floor for 13 points and Ethan Meeker was 2-for-3 from 3 with 12 points.
The biggest definer of the Eagles’ win Wednesday was the battle down low. Kirkwood players posted up and drove in much more efficiently, scoring 40 points in the paint, while MCC found just 22 points down low
Juan Coffi and Floyd Preito each tallied 12 points, BJ Millard had 11 and Mohamed Thiam had 10 in the Tigers’ loss.
Next up for MCC is the first Iowa Community College Athletic Conference opener against Southeastern Community College, on the road, tipping off at 7 p.m.
