GIRLS HOOPS: Seventh-ranked Trojans rip Rebels 82-27
West Marshall girls improve to 15-0 with NICL West Division victory
REINBECK — Teresa Disney recorded her first-career double-double and the Class 3A No. 7 West Marshall girls’ basketball team soundly defeated Gladbrook-Reinbeck 82-27 in Thursday’s NICL West Division game.
The freshman Disney was one of four Trojans to score in double figures, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Brooke Snider led West Marshall (15-0, 8-0) with 18 points.
Shannon Breja chalked up 14 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists, and Kayla Cripps racked up 12 points, five rebounds and four steals. Emma Meyer added six points and six assists for the Trojans.
Taylor Gienger scored seven points to lead Gladbrook-Reinbeck (0-13, 0-7), which was playing the last of seven consecutive home games. Megan Swanson added six points, Rachel Cooley had five points and Maddie Frischmeyer added four points for the Rebels.
AGWSR 51, BCLUW 37
ACKLEY — Mandy Willems had 20 points and was on fire from behind the arc, as she drained six of her seven attempted 3-pointers, and helped the AGWSR girls’ basketball team snap a three-game losing streak in a 51-37 win against BCLUW on Friday night.
Willems, who averages 10.5 points per game for AGWSR (9-4, 5-2 NICL West), had another electric night, just one week after a 22-point night against Class 3A No. 7 West Marshall. Willems was 4-of-7 from 3 in that game. Maddie Brandt had nine points and Mariah Jimmerson added seven in the Cougars’ win.
BCLUW (5-8, 2-6 NICL West) was led by Skylar Veldhouse with her 12 points. Lauren Anderson had 10 and Samantha Ubben eight points and eight rebounds for the Comets.
GMG 53, Valley Lutheran 23
WATERLOO — The GMG girls’ basketball team rolled to a 53-23 victory against Valley Lutheran in Friday’s Iowa Star Conference contest.
The Wolverines (8-6, 8-3) jumped out to a 15-2 first-quarter lead and eased to the conference triumph. McKensie Vaske led the way with 15 points for GMG, while Mable Dieleman finished with 11 points and Blaire Sonderleiter added 10 more.
Emma Armbrecht led Valley Lutheran (2-11, 2-11) with nine points in the team’s eighth-straight loss.
Grundy Center 46, East Marshall 33
GRUNDY CENTER — It wasn’t pretty, but the Grundy Center girls’ basketball team won its eighth-straight game with a 46-33 win against East Marshall at home Friday.
Hailey Wallis and Brooke Flater each led the way with 14 points as the Spartans (11-2, 6-2 NICL West) outscored the Mustangs (4-10, 2-6 NICL West) 18-8 in the final quarter. Flater had eight rebounds while Wallis tallied seven boards.
East Marshall was led by Tylyn Eicher’s nine points while Emily and Olivia Terrones each had seven points in the loss.

Meskwaki Settlement 57, North Tama 27
TRAER — Grace Tahahwah scored a school-record 38 points as the Meskwaki girls’ basketball team dispatched North Tama 57-27 in Thursday’s Iowa Star Conference South Division game.
Tahahwah shot 16-of-18 from the field, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range, and was 3-for-4 at the free-throw line en route to the best scoring performance in Warriors history. The Meskwaki senior also had nine steals, four rebounds, two blocked shots and two assists.
Payton Tahahwah contributed four points and a team-leading seven rebounds for the Warriors (9-7, 9-5).
North Tama was led by Karly Jans with 11 points. McKenzie Wood chipped in five points, while Shelby McKinley finished with two poitns, four rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Redhawks (5-10, 5-8).
Dike-New Hartford 63, South Hardin 47
ELDORA — A 17-8 second-quarter advantage provided most of the difference as the Dike-New Hartford girls’ basketball team took down South Hardin 63-47 in Thursday’s cross-NICL contest.
Ellie Foster led the Wolverines (7-6) with 18 points, while Sydney Petersen finished with 15 points and Baylee Petersen had 12 in Dike-New Hartford’s third-straight win.
Paige Harrell, Hannah Tripp and Kiera Anderson had 10 points apiece for South Hardin (5-7), which lost its third-straight.
