CEDAR FALLS — Sunday’s 80-66 win for Wichita State continued a six-game winning streak while extending a six-game losing streak for the Northern Iowa men in Cedar Falls.

Landry Shamet had 17 points to lead the Shockers (14-3, 4-0 MVC) while Klint Carlson posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Turnovers plagued the Panthers (5-10, 0-4 MVC), not so much in quantity but in what the Shockers did with them afterward.

Wichita State turned 11 Panther turnovers into 20 points, while Northern Iowa was only able to make 10 points of the nine give aways from Wichita State.

The Panthers led marginally by four in the first quarter, but it was all Shockers from there on out. Rauno Nurger and Conner Frankamp came off Wichita State’s bench to score 13 and 11 points, respectively, leading the Shockers bench to 38 points.

The six-game lull is the longest for the Panthers since a 10-game streak in 2000-01. It’s the first time Northern Iowa has started conference play 0-4 since the same season when the Panthers actually began 0-7.

The magic number seems to be 70 for the Panthers. When posting more than 70 or more, Northern Iowa is 5-1 this year. But when being held to less than 70, it’s 0-9.

The Panthers are back in action with a trip to Bradley on Wednesday, tipping off at 8 p.m. in Peoria, Ill.
