STC matmen power past Independence

INDEPENDENCE — Anchored by its four ranked wrestlers, South Tama County came back for a 33-25 victory against Independence in Thursday’s WaMaC Conference dual meet.

The Trojans trailed 21-9 eight weights into the match before South Tama rattled off five consecutive wins. Fifth-ranked 126-pounder Brady Fritz pinned Mark Morkel in 1 minute, 8 seconds, and No. 8 Tanner Probasco pinned Christian Kremer in 3 minutes at 132 to tie the score at 21-all.

Colton Vest, ranked fourth at 138, scored a 10-3 decision over Tanner Erickson-Dale, Pedro Rodriguez got a 5-2 overtime decision against Sam Graesser, and second-ranked Isaac Judge pinned Joe Priebe in 34 seconds at 152.

Tanner Walz, Dalton Rosenberg and Mario Moncada also scored wins by decision for STC.

Tough night for Trojans at Don Bosco

GILBERTVILLE — A pair of forfeit wins were all the West Marshall wrestling team had to show for its 72-12 loss to Class 1A No. 1 Don Bosco on Thursday night. The top-ranked Dons piled up nine pins — six in the first period — and benefitted from three forfeits by the Trojans.

Heavyweight Cody Butler and 170-pounder Conley Petermeier got their hands raised for West Marshall’s wins.

AGWSR swept in NICL triangular

FAIRBANK — Tery Rummans and Caleb Meinders both went 2-0 as the AGWSR wrestling team suffered two dual-meet losses in NICL action here Thursday.

The Cougars fell to Wapsie Valley 69-9 and to Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center 57-17. Rummans at 195 pounds defeated Wapsie Valley’s J.P. Michael by an 11-7 decision, and Meinders — ranked third in Class 1A — pinned Matthew Richards in 2 minutes, 21 seconds.

Rummans scored a 19-4 technical fall triumph against Jacob Gohchenover from AP/GC, and Meinders pinned Nolan Freeman in 3:20. Ali Gerbracht received a forfeit at 106 as well for AGWSR.

RebelHawks drop two duals at Jesup

JESUP — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck/North Tama wrestling team fell in a pair of NICL dual meets Thursday night, losing 65-13 to Class 2A No. 9 Denver-Tripoli and 46-30 to host Jesup.

Peyton Willenbring pinned D-T’s Keenan Balhmann at 220 pounds to the top GRNT victory. Tyler Morrison (170) got a major decision over Ryan Maitland, 14-5, and Conway Feisel got a 9-3 decision against Antonio Graber at 220 pounds.

Bronson Wrage (182), Zane Nelson (106) and Noah Skornia (132) picked up pinfall victories against Jesup.

Storm edged in conference triangular

HUDSON — The South Hardin-BCLUW wrestling team came up just short in a pair of North Iowa Cedar League duals here Thursday night. The Storm fell 50-30 to Class 1A No. 10 Dike-New Hartford and 46-36 to host Hudson.

Class 1A No. 10 Ryland DuChane at 160 pounds was one of five Storm wrestlers to go 2-0 on the night. He defeated Dike-New Hartford’s Tanner Smith by injury default before pinning Hudson’s Jon Colsch in 2 minutes, 55 seconds.

Coby Willett (126) and Josiah Dorow (132) both recorded a pair of pins, while Taylor Kolthoff (106) and Ian Showers (113) won once by fall and once by forfeit. Hunter Allen (120) notched a pin against Hudson for the only other SH-BCLUW match win.
