UNI women whip Loyola
CEDAR FALLS — The Northern Iowa women’s basketball team had no issues handling visiting Loyola on Sunday, handing it a 68-30 loss.
The Panthers (15-4, 8-0 MVC) held the Ramblers (2-16, 1-6 MVC) to single-digit scoring in the first three quarters, before they rattled off 14 in the fourth to nearly double their score.
The scoring for the Panthers was a spread out as could be. Thirteen different players scored for Northern Iowa, as Angie Davison and Taylor Hagen led their team with nine points apiece.
Loyola was led by Kiana Coomber’s 10 points off the Loyola bench.
Non-starting five players accounted for 40 of the Panthers’ 60 points, while Loyola had just 17 bench points.
Northern Iowa got off to a 21-4 first-quarter lead and extended it to 36-13 at halftime. The Ramblers put up four points in the first quarter, nine in the second, three in the third before getting 14 in the fourth.
Northern Iowa’s quest to remain perfect will continue at home Friday night, with perfection knocking at its doorstep. The Drake women, also 8-0, will visit in a battle to determine conference perfection and first place in the league.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the McLeod Center.
