Wendell helps Bulldogs wallop Ramblers 89-46
DES MOINES — The Drake women’s basketball team remained perfect through conference play with another convincing victory, this time against visiting Loyola, 89-46 Friday night.
Lizzy Wendell went for 25 points on 10-for-14 field-goal shooting to lead the Bulldogs (14-4, 7-0 MVC) to its eighth-straight win.
Drake got off to a hot start, jumping on a 20-0 run in the first eight minutes of the game. Loyola (2-15, 1-5 MVC) found its first basket with just 2:01 left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 48-23 at halftime behind Wendell and freshman Becca Hittner’s second career double-double, as she posted 15 points and 10 rebounds.
As a team, Drake shot 56.5 percent from the floor and hit 6-of-19 3-pointers. It forced 17 Loyola turnovers and converted them into 23 points.
The Bulldogs will host Indiana State at the Knapp Center at 2 p.m. Saturday in the final game of its current homestand.
