Wendell nets third MVC weekly award
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Drake University senior Lizzy Wendell was named as the Missouri Valley Conference’s women’s basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Wendell, who has now earned the award back-to-back weeks and the third time this season. It’s the 12th time she’s earned the Player of the Week honor.
Wendell averaged 20.5 points, four rebounds and four assists in the Bulldogs’ two wins last week.
The senior led Drake with 24 points and had a career-tying seen steals against Bradley. She followed it up with a game-high 17 points and five assists against Illinois State.
Wendell is the conference’s leading scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game. She’s third in assists (4.1), second in steals (3.1) and third in field-goal percentage (54.2 percent).
Drake is back in action against Loyola on Friday, tipping off at 7 p.m. at the Knapp Center.
