SPORTS SHORTS: Comets cap off season with 54-28 loss

MONTEZUMA — The BCLUW girls’ basketball season came to a close with a 54-28 loss to Montezuma on Tuesday night in Class 2A Region 6 action.

The Comets (10-13) were led by Lauren Anderson’s eight points, while Madison Ubben tacked on six more.

Anderson also had seven rebounds and three steals to help out the Comets’ efforts. Samantha Ubben, Leah Yantis and Skyler Veldhouse all had four points, with Samantha tallying three assists and Yantis with five more rebounds.

Montezuma (16-6) was led by Shelby Helm and Riley Gatton’s 12 points apiece. Montezuma will now take on 2A No. 7 Pella Christian in the semifinals Friday night.

Colo-NESCO cruises by North Tama

COLO — The Colo-NESCO girls’ basketball team had no issues taking care of North Tama for the third and final time this season in a 68-13 win in Class 1A Region 3 action.

Grace Stalzer posted 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the Royals (19-5) past North Tama (7-16) Tuesday night.

Mackenna Ruffcorn had 12 points and Kassie Robinson had 11 more to add on to the Royals’ score.

North Tama was led by Olivia Schrier’s five points. Hope Brubaker had four more.

Colo-NESCO will host No. 14 AGWSR on Friday evening, tipping off at 7 p.m.
