Drake’s Timmer tabs honorable mention

DES MOINES — Drake men’s basketball junior Reed Timmer was named to the Missouri Valley Conference third-team Tuesday, the league announced.

Timmer started in all 30 games and scored in the double figures in 26 of those contests. He led Drake in scoring this year with 15.4 points per game and was fourth overall in the league. Timmer was also third in the MVC in shooting percentage with 82.9 percent of his shots falling.

Timmer made 362 career free throws, ranking fourth in program history.

The junior’s 462 points this season has propelled him to ninth all-time among Drake’s all-time leading scorers with 1,337 career points. Timmer was the 24th Bulldog to eclipse 1,000-career points, doing so on Dec. 10 against Jackson State.

It’s the third postseason accolade for Timmer in his career at Drake. As a freshman, he was the MVC’s All-Newcomers and All-Freshman teams. Last year, he was an honorable mention and MVC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Drake plays Bradley in the MVC Tournament in St. Louis on Thursday, tipping off at 8:30 p.m.
