MCC’s Simmons garners Player of the Week honor
The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team played just one game last week, but Brandon Simmons stood out enough in the 77-76 win against Northeast Community College to be named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division I Player of the Week.
Simmons posted a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds in the one-point victory, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, his most makes from downtown this season. Simmons also had three blocks and two steals in the win.
The MCC season came to a close Monday in an 81-71 loss to Southeastern CC in the Region XI opener. Simmons had a double-double in that game of 13 points and 14 boards. The sophomore finished the season averaging 11.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Simmons’ two blocks per game on the year led the ICCAC.
